Custom short URL slugs

By default, Unqode SmartQR assigns a random short code to your QR code's redirect URL (e.g. smartqr.unqode.com/r/abc123). With a custom slug, you can choose a memorable short URL instead (e.g. smartqr.unqode.com/r/summer-sale).

Setting a custom slug

  1. Open a QR code in the editor (Pro plan required).
  2. Find the Custom Short URL field.
  3. Enter your preferred slug — lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens only, 3–40 characters.
  4. Click Check availability. If taken, choose a different slug.
  5. Save the QR code.

Slug rules

  • 3–40 characters
  • Lowercase letters (a–z), numbers (0–9), and hyphens (-) only
  • Cannot start or end with a hyphen
  • Must be globally unique — no two QR codes can share a slug

Changing a slug after printing

⚠️ If you change the slug after printing the QR code, the old redirect URL stops working. The printed QR code encodes the original redirect URL — changing the slug breaks it. Only set a custom slug before printing.
