How to customise your QR code

Unqode SmartQR lets you fully customise the appearance of your QR codes — colours, dot styles, corner shapes, logos, and frame text — while maintaining scannability.

Foreground and background colour

Change the foreground (dot) colour and background colour using the colour pickers in the Design section. Any combination works as long as there is sufficient contrast — the code needs to be darker than the background.

⚠️ Never make the foreground lighter than the background. QR scanners rely on dark modules on a light background. Inverted colours (white on dark) can cause scan failures on some devices.

Dot style

Choose from square (classic), rounded, or dots. Rounded and dot styles give a softer, modern look while remaining fully scannable.

Corner style

The three corner squares (called "finder patterns") can be styled as square or rounded. This significantly changes the visual character of the code.

Logo embedding

Upload a PNG or SVG logo to embed in the centre of the code. Unqode SmartQR automatically increases error correction to Level H (30% redundancy) when a logo is added. Keep your logo below 30% of the total code area.

Frame styles

Frames add a border and call-to-action text around the QR code (e.g. "SCAN ME", "GET OFFER"). Choose from several frame shapes. Frame text and colour are fully customisable.

Error correction level

Controls how much damage the code can sustain while still scanning. Options: L (7%), M (15%), Q (25%), H (30%). Use H if adding a logo. Use L or M for clean codes to keep the pattern simpler.

💡 After any significant design change, scan the QR code with your own phone before sending to print. If it scans reliably on your device, it'll scan for most users.
