Password-protecting your QR codes

Password protection adds a gate page before the QR code redirect — scanners must enter a password to proceed. This is useful for internal documents, member-only content, or age-gated pages.

Setting a password

  1. Open a QR code in the editor (Pro plan required).
  2. Scroll to the Advanced Settings section.
  3. Enter a password in the Password Protection field.
  4. Save the QR code.

What the scanner sees

When the QR code is scanned, a branded password gate page appears. The scanner enters the password and is redirected to the destination. Three failed attempts show an error — there is no lockout timer by default.

Changing or removing a password

Open the QR code editor, update the password field, and save. To remove password protection entirely, clear the field and save.

ℹ️ Passwords are stored in plain text to allow the redirect server to compare them quickly. Do not use a password that you use elsewhere for sensitive accounts. Password protection is a convenience gate, not enterprise-grade security.

Use cases

  • Internal company documents for employees only
  • Member discount pages for loyalty card holders
  • Event-specific content revealed on the day
  • Age verification gate (requires scanner to enter a password to confirm age)
